Holiday with a Difference

Volunteering Holidays in Uganda

Uganda is a country of vibrant landscapes, from the misty peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains to the vast waters of Lake Victoria and the lush rainforests of Bwindi. Its communities are welcoming and resilient, yet many face challenges in education, healthcare, and access to essential services, while wildlife and environmental conservation remain critical.

Through Themba Travel, you can volunteer with local changemakers who are creating positive, lasting impact. From supporting schools and healthcare initiatives to helping conservation projects protect endangered species, your skills and time make a real difference in people’s lives and the environment.

Volunteering in Uganda is about connection, learning, and contribution. You will work alongside locals, gain insight into their traditions and daily lives, and take part in initiatives that truly matter. Every moment brings an opportunity to give back and form meaningful bonds.

Your accommodation is carefully selected to suit the experience. You may stay in community-run guesthouses, eco-lodges near national parks, or lodges in small towns. Each option is chosen for comfort, authenticity, and proximity to the projects you support.

Whether you volunteer alone, with friends, as a family, or as part of a group, your time in Uganda will be rewarding, inspiring, and unforgettable. We look forward to welcoming you to this extraordinary country.

We match your skills and experiences with the project's needs so you can have the greatest impact.

I was quite hesitant about the trip. I just retired and haven't been travelling, but the people are friendly and helpful, the scenery is amazing, the variety of working with people, and the animals were amazing. The staff at the two projects were so kind and considerate towards me

I wanted the kids to experience a different culture and participate in volunteering. The two-week experience in the community and wildlife sanctuary was so interesting, and the friendly people made our time even more special. I had incredible moments with each of my children as a family, creating wonderful memories

I spent one week at the healthcare project. I was very satisfied with everything about the trip. I enjoyed meeting people and discussing everyday life in our respective countries.

We booked a 3-night homestay in the wine region near Cape Town. We wanted to experience local culture, taste the food (and the wine), and learn about the history of the area. Themba Travel was friendly, efficient, reliable, considerate, flexible, and totally committed to supporting us to support the local economy. We had a brilliant itinerary, professional drivers, expert local guides, a beautiful guest house and an amazing time.

Cheetahs are beautiful animals and it was a pleasure to be so close to them. I'm really pleased I added on a few extra days in Cape Town which is an amazing place. The hike up Table Mountain and watching a rugby match in the stadium were an added bonus.

Wildlife conservation plus seeing and learning about animals from guides. A magical experience to savour for the rest of my life. Met very nice people and love the beauty of South Africa. A joy to visit it second time!

My experience in one word...’ Brilliant’ What I enjoyed most about my Volunteering holiday, was being part of a program to protect endangered cheetahs and ensure their health and well-being whilst at the centre. The accommodation, meals, transportation and practical assistance was all very good and I would highly recommend Themba Travel.

I enjoyed learning about the conservation project’s efforts, and day to day activities which further improve the wellbeing and lives of the cheetahs. I also enjoyed having hands on experience helping, by assisting when the vet was on site, as well as with feeding and enrichment building for the animals.

We were so well taken care of by all the members of the Themba Travel team. I particularly liked our guide Nick, who was knowledgeable and made the game drives very interesting. We saw 3 out of the big five and many other beautiful and fascinating animals. Still, I also appreciated and loved learning about the birds, tracking of animals, the medicinal value of plants in reserve
