South Africa is a melting pot of many different cultures, and the food will tell the stories! So why not learn how to make some our the most popular dishes under the guidance of the locals. We will have you stuck in, mixing spices, whisking away creams, trying delicious samples and pairing wine with cheeses, dessert, chocolates and even biltong.
We have put the perfect tour together that combines good food, wine and great stories from the diverse cultures of the rainbow nation. This culinary journey will take you from the buzzing city to the lazy coastline, enjoy home-cooked favourites, sit around the fire with food that makes you feel good.
And while you eat, listen to the exciting stories of where the food originated. We visit homes, markets, restaurants and farms in 3 different locations in and around Cape Town. You will be spoilt for choice, and you might just be adding to your waistline…sorry to say!
Your food journey starts and ends in Cape Town city centre. Visit one of the oldest communities in the colourful Bo Kaap. Join the cooking class and you will learn to mix your spices for a good Cape Malay dish and finish it with the infamous sweet treat, the koe’sister!
There will be ample time to explore the city’s iconic attractions like Table Mountain, District Six Museum or a drive around the Peninsula. And if you love shopping, the V&A Waterfront awaits you for some retail therapy! This will leave you breathless and hungry! And we sure have the remedy for that…FOOD!
We pack our bags and head to the unspoiled beauty of the West Coast. We visit the rhythm and the rhymes of the First People and learn about their food and life practices of the Indigenous people of South Africa.
The Westcoast gathers small fishing villages like Langebaan and Paternoster. With its widespread floral blanket during Spring, this coastal drive takes you to see some wildlife and meet some wonderful earthlings in close relationship with nature and all her beauty.
All aboard the wine tram! We are heading to more breathtaking views and powerful stories of the Cape Winelands.
We wander into nature, taking in the sights of the wine valley. Taste, see and sit overlooking the vineyards. On the last night, you will gather around the fire for a braai (barbecue). You might end up singing and dancing together. You will leave ‘fuller’ literally and much happier.
After breakfast, you travel to Franschhoek, where French Hugenote farmers settled in 1694. You will visit the historic estate where a portion of land was awarded to the first female in South Africa. Here you will take part in a wine tasting, or enjoy something more unique, such as a wine blending experience, or “Sabrage”, a technique to open a bottle of wine with a sword!
For the rest of the afternoon, take a stroll down the high street filled with French flair. We conclude the tour with a traditional meal on a boutique farm in the wine valley.
Depending on when your flight leaves, we might have time for a coffee paired with a local favourite. You leave ‘fuller’ and much happier.
